About Free verse poems…

This concludes my 5 part series on poetry. New topic coming up soon.

Free verse poems will have no set meter, which is the rhythm of the words, no rhyme scheme, or any particular structure. However, free verse poems must be an artistic expression. Some people consider free verse to be modern but it has been around for hundreds of years.

Here is a short example by Sandburg:

“Fog” by Carl Sandburg

The fog comes

on little cat feet.

It sits looking

over harbor and city

on silent haunches

and then moves on.

“A Smile” By: Joe P. Attanasio

As summer freedom crashes to an end

School days loom like heavy curtains

Trudging and dragging reluctant feet

I crawl to the corner to await the bus

A new girl stands out from the crowd

Our eyes meet before I can turn away

She smiles warmly still looking at me

Her beauty shines from within and without

My cares drop away like autumn leaves

And flowers of hope begin to bud

    1. I can't believe you ran across my blog here, this really is a shrinking world we are living in. Nice job on a most ambitious project in the hill there.
